The Presidential Suite is usually the grandest, most expensive room in a luxury hotel. Not all luxury hotels and resorts have a single designated Presidential Suitesome have similar rooms and villas across the board, or more than one high-end roombut when they do, this suite will be sure to have the largest floor area, the fanciest interiors, and the most prime views.

Anecdotal history has it that the concept of a Presidential Suite first began in the United States, to accommodate President Woodrow Wilson's requirements for the hotels he stayed in outside the White House. Local variations on the Presidential Suite include Royal Suites for countries with monarchies, and our own Manila Hotel's MacArthur Suite, in which General Douglas MacArthur literally lived while he served with the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines.

Most Presidential Suites are just thata suite of rooms, with living areas, dining areas, and possibly additional bedrooms, assumed to provide the space needed for the occupants' entourage. Some are simply super-sized rooms with more luxurious trappings than the rest of the accommodations in the hotel. A further distinction is the availability of the suite for bookingsmost hotels require special arrangements for their top-of-the-line accommodations, and do not publish rates or allow remote reservations.

Though most travelers probably don't have plans to book a Presidential Suite for their next vacation, everyone will be able to appreciate a sneak peek into these luxurious lodgings, to see how the privileged few spend their holidays. Here, we round up seriously impressive Presidential Suites from ten hotels all over the Philippines.

Manila Hotel

Manila Hotel

Manila City, Metro Manila

A hotel with a long, illustrious past, the Manila Hotel at one point became General Douglas MacArthur's home while serving as Military Advisor to the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines. A penthouse suite was specially commissioned and designed by Architect Pedro Luna, the son of famous painter Juan Luna. The suite has since been refurbished with design elements like ivory paneling, hand-embroidered jusi, and antique furniture. Other features of the suite are a master bedroom with a dressing room, a guest room, two bathrooms and a powder room, a study, a formal dining room overlooking the bay, a kitchen, and a balcony with a view of Manila Bay.
