PPUR Confirmed as one of the New7Wonders of Nature
The New 7 Wonders organization has officially announced that the Puerto Princesa Underground River is part of the New7Wonders of Nature.Filipinos all over the world have been rallying for the Puerto Princesa Underground River, also called the PPUR, to be included as one of the New7Wonders of Nature ever since it made the shortlist last year. Even personalities such as composer and musician Noel Cabangon and even the President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino III rallied behind the campaign, drumming up support to be included in this list. TravelBook pitched in, sponsoring an event to help drum up votes for the PPUR.
Bernard Weber, the Founder-President of New7Wonders, was in Manila over the weekend to announce the definite inclusion of the PPUR in the list of New Seven Wonders of Nature. The list isn't complete yet, but the PPUR is the second Natural Wonder to be confirmed, after South Korea's Jeju Island.
Palwawan, most especially Puerto Princesa, is proud, and its Mayor Edward Hagedorn has been quoted as saying: "This confirmation is wonderful news for Puerto Princesa, and a great example of how now it's more fun to be in the Philippines... World-wide exposure of our natural beauty on this level is critical both for tourism and for our image nationally and internationally."
