Siargao in Pictures

Siargao is more than just one of the country—nay, the world’s—most popular surf spots. It’s also an island with a lot of beauty to offer.

Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, was recently named the 8th best place in the world to surf. The rank is not without good cause. Cloud 9, arguably the most famous of the island's over 20 breaks, delivers consistent right-handed barrels that attract surfers from all over the world. During the peak season (September to November), Cloud 9's perfectly shaped tubes and overhead sets are more than enough to satisfy the biggest adrenaline junkies. And for spectators, it is often quite a show.

But beyond Cloud 9 and all the other surf breaks are small islands with sandy shores and blue waters, tide pools that become personal jacuzzis-cum-aquariums, a rich marine life for snorkelers and divers, and photo-ops galore.

For smaller waves and quieter adventures, aim for the summer months. For a fully booked weekend of waves in the morning and parties at night, keep your eyes peeled for announcements on the annual international surf competition usually between the months of Septmeber and October.
