About Ilocos


The Ilocos Region, or Region 1, includes the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan. When people speak of Ilocos, however, it is usually to refer to the area encompassed by the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. These are located at the northeastern tip of the Philippines. The provinces are blessed with excellent infrastructure, miles of scenic coastline, and colonial churches, houses, and institutional buildings that make it a popular destination for art and architecture enthusiasts and history buffs.

  • Ilocos Norte

    Ilocos Norte

    Ilocos Norte is the northernmost province of the Ilocos Region. It is known for its colonial churches, the historic lighthouse at Burgos, the wind farm at Bangui, and the sand dunes in La Paz. Visitors usually stay in the capital city of Laoag or at one of the many resorts along the beaches in Pagudpud and Currimao.

  • Ilocos Sur

    Ilocos Sur

    A destination for culture and history lovers, Ilocos Sur is most visited for the Vigan Heritage Village, a living version of the country's historic Spanish colonial towns. It is also known for the Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion Church, a fortress-like Baroque church on top of a hill in Sta. Maria.
