Ten Romantic Restos Outside the Metro

New restaurants crop up all over the metro very often and very quickly, so it's not hard to find somewhere new to go on a date. But if you're looking for a change of scenery, one thing you can do is dine somewhere outside the city. Take a trip with your special someone and try out these places:

Antonio's in Tagaytay, Cavite

  • Cuisine:  European Asian Fusion
  • Serves: Lunch and Dinner
  • Price range: Set meal prices start at approximately P1,200 per person. A set meal includes one main dish with salad, soup, dessert, and coffee or tea.
  • Ambiance: Open air dining in a verdant garden setting
  • Special Features: Fresh menu ingredients from Antonio's Farm next door.
  • Notes: Antonio's is closed on Mondays. Dress code is strictly smart casual, no t-shirts and flipflops allowed. Calling ahead for table reservations is highly recommended and can be made up to two months in advance. Accepts lunch reservations between 11AM and 2PM, dinner reservations between 5:30PM to 8:30PM.

Café Verbena at Discovery Country Suites, Tagaytay, Cavite

  • Ambiance: Romantic indoor dining, with an enclosed terrace area overlooking Tagaytay hills
  • Special Features: Café Verbena is the partner restaurant of Discovery Country Suites and is also WiFi accessible.
  • Notes: Café Verbena has a special menu for breakfast and is open daily from 10am to 8pm.

Chateau Hestia Garden Restaurant, Silang, Cavite

  • Price range: Prices start at P1,000 per person for a 5-course meal, which includes an appetizer, soup, salad, entrée or pasta, and dessert.
  • Ambiance: Homey, indoor dining, with dining area surrounded by gardens
  • Special Features: Chateua Hestia is WiFi accessible and has rooms available for bed and breakfast.
  • Notes: Chateau Hestia is open on Wednesdays thru Sundays and on public holidays from 10am to 9pm. Calling ahead to reserve a table is encouraged, though walk-ins are accommodated according to the availability of tables.

Fire Lake Grill at Cliffhouse Tagaytay, Tagaytay, Cavite

  • Price range: A typical 4-course meal (starter, soup, entrée or pasta, and dessert) starts at approximately P1,000 per person.
  • Ambiance: Bright and airy dining area during the day, and cozy and romantic at night
  • Special Features: Fire Lake Grill has a view of Taal Lake from the outdoor dining area.
  • Notes: Fire Lake Grill serves lunch at 11 am to 2 pm and dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm on Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, meals are served from 11 am to 10 pm. Serving times are strictly followed, so calling ahead for table reservations is recommended. Dress code is strictly smart casual. Secure and free parking is available within the compound.

Sonya's Garden in Tagaytay, Cavite

  • Price range: The eat-all-you-can set meals range from around P700 to P800 per person. Set meals include salad, pasta, dessert, and drinks.
  • Ambiance: Open-air garden dining
  • Special Features: The ingredients are fresh, organically grown, and handpicked from Sonya's garden. Sonya's also has a B&B, where guests can reserve overnight accommodations, or visit the spa facilities.
  • Notes: Sonya's Garden also serves a set breakfast meal from 8am to 9:30 am.

Sulyap Gallery Café in San Pablo, Laguna

  • Travel Time from Manila: Approximately 3 hours
  • Cuisine: Traditional Filipino food, particularly San Pablo specialties
  • Serves: Lunch and Dinner
  • Price range: Meals range from around P400 per person and up, as portions are big enough for sharing.
  • Ambiance: Old-world dining, surrounded by antiques and art
  • Special Features: Sulyap Gallery Café is both a restaurant and an art gallery, and the structure was built using materials from a Spanish era house in Real, Quezon.
  • Notes: Sulyap Gallery Café is open daily from 11 am to 10 pm. The restaurant is part of the Viaje del Sol route. Sulyap's Casa Obando Bed and Breakfast some time this month. Reservations are accepted for groups of 30 people or more. Parking is available in front of the restaurant, within the compound.

La Esquina at Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club, Batangas

  • Serves: Lunch and Dinner
  • Price range: Prices for a meal with a starter, salad, entrée, and dessert start at approximately P1,500 per person.
  • Ambiance: Cozy indoor dining with a view of a golf course and surrounding mountains
  • Special Features: La Esquina is located at the corner of the golf clubhouse of Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club, giving it a great view of the grounds.
  • Notes: La Esquina is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 8pm. Their specialty is paella, which is good for about four people. Guests are recommended to come in smart casual attire. Flipflops and shorts are not allowed.

Vieux Chalet in Antipolo, Rizal

  • Ambiance: Rustic and homey
  • Special Features: Vieux Chalet has a view overlooking the city, which is best seen at night.
  • Notes: Starting in March, Vieux Chalet will be open from 11am to 10pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 8am to 11pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Several of their dishes serve four to six people. Its location is rather hidden, so its best to find a map or call in advance to inquire about directions.

C' Italian Dining, Clark, Pampanga

  • Ambiance: Rustic, romantic Italian country estate
  • Special Features: C' Italian Dining has several dining areas, including the Piazza, the Grotto, and La Stanza. The food portions are big and ideal for sharing. C' Italian Dining is also known for their panizza.
  • Notes: C' Italian Dining is open Mondays through Sundays from 11:30 am to 12 midnight. Flipflops, shorts, and beachwear are not allowed. Calling in advance to reserve a table is highly encouraged, especially for weekend visits. There is secure free parking available at the restaurant.

Yats Restaurant and Wine Bar, Clark, Pampanga
