Looking for a place to bed down for the night? While there are many types of accommodations available for the seasoned traveler, a hotel is your best bet when you're staying somewhere for a short time or if you plan to be out for most of the day. Here's a checklist of things to look for when choosing a hotel to ensure that you have a worry-free stay.

1. Convenient Booking

Doing what you can online is always helpful when you want to save time. This includes booking your hotel. You have enough on your hands as you plan your trip, coordinate everyone's schedules, and get your leave approved. A hotel that allows you to book online saves you a lot of time, energy, and effort so that all you have to do when you get to your destination is check in.

2. Comfortable Beds

The main purpose of booking a hotel is to have a place to sleep in. Make sure beds are firm and clean, with good quality sheets, as well as pillows that won't give you a neck ache in the morning.

3. TV Time

While a TV is not a must when going on trips, many travelers use it not to keep up with shows, but to remind them of home. If you're one of those people who like leaving the TV on while you lounge around your room, a hotel with an LCD Cable TV ensures that you can find programs that will give you a sense of familiarity, even when you're far away from home.

4. Topnotch Safety Measures

Part of the reason you're going on vacation is to leave your worries behind. You can't do this if you're thinking of the security of your lodgings. Signs of a safe hotel include a guard at the door, CCTV cameras, and a good location in a well-lit and busy area. To keep valuables secure, store them in the room safe or always have them on your person.

5. Excellent Ambiance

A hotel is your home away from home, so comfort is of utmost importance. The right ambiance goes a long way in making your stay pleasant. The hospitality industry is quite competitive, so even budget hotels should have their fair share of character.

6. Good Bathrooms

You may not realize it, but the bathroom plays an important part in how much you enjoy a place. Nothing ruins a trip more than a weak or waterless shower, especially when you're in the middle of a bath. A roomy bathroom with adequate lighting and a strong shower will help you relax, be it from a business meeting, a shopping trip, or a visit to the beach.

7. Working Wi-Fi

There are times when we want--or have to be--connected, while on a trip. Wi-Fi is common nowadays, and a hotel that provides it for free is a must. This is especially important for budget travelers taking work with them on their vacation.

8. Convenient Transport

Exploring a place should be easy. Pick a hotel that's in a busy area with a lot of transportation options. This way, you won't have to worry about making sure you get the last bus back and can focus on enjoying your trip.

9. Good Reputation

Reputation counts, especially with hotels. Find out what other travelers say about a place via reviews online. Hotel chains such as Go Hotels may be a good idea for first time travelers or those who value consistency, as having many branches means they're tried and tested and have systems in place that are designed to please the customer.

10. Quality Service

In the end, what makes a hotel worth staying at and going back to is service. Was it easy to book a room? Were all your needs met while you were staying there? Was the staff helpful, and were they knowledgeable about the location? A hotel might have fancy furnishings, but it's always the service that gets remembered in the end.
