Surfing is a great activity to relieve stress by getting your adrenaline rushing and to be involved in a new hobby. Thankfully, the Philippines is blessed with excellent accommodations for surfers, and some of them are even near Metro Manila!

Like with any other getaway, choosing the right accommodation is half of what makes the trip a memorable one. But don’t fret! We’ve got you covered with a list of five hip accommodations in the top surf spots in the country.

Flotsam and Jetsam (San Juan, La Union)
A place where art, music, design, and surfing coexist, Flotsam and Jetsam is truly a relaxing sanctuary north of Manila. The setup is laidback and cozy: with colorful bean bags around where you can chill and chat with your friends or fellow vacationers. It is not unusual for guests from different parts of the country or the world to forge friendships at Flotsam and Jetsam.

Whether you’re alone, with your boyfriend, or your barkada, there’s an accommodation at Flotsam and Jetsam that perfectly suits your needs. And at night, their in-house café turns into a cozy but lively venue for live performances from the best musicians in town.

A room at Flotsam and Jetsam costs around PHP 800.00 to as much as PHP 4,000.00 for an overnight stay.

The Circle Hostel - La Union (San Juan, La Union)
The Circle Hostel is one of the more popular chains of budget and eco-friendly hotels in the Philippines. They are also known in the surfing scene because of their branches in beach destinations like La Union, Baler, and Zambales.

At The Circle Hostel, “there are no strangers” is the belief of the owners, which is why the hostel was designed with open spaces to encourage interaction among guests. For accommodations, you can choose from two bunk rooms, a co-ed dorm, and an all-female dorm. You can also try lounging in one of the 35 hammocks around to soak up that relaxing vibe.

A stay at The Circle Hostel La Union is very pocket-friendly: only PHP 450.00 per person for an overnight stay.

Easy Adventure (Baler, Aurora)
If you’re looking for something unique during your next visit to Baler, you better give Easy Adventure a try. At Easy Adventure, you will be sleeping in tents with a canopy of stars above you and amidst the beauty of nature. The staff will prepare the campsite and provide you with beddings, sheets, and pillows. The accommodations are also inclusive of meals.

Surfing, of course, is the main activity, and the campsite is just minutes away from the beach. But there are also other activities to try like paddle boarding, yoga, and sitting by the bonfire at night. It is worth noting that Easy Adventure also relies on renewable energy.

Enjoy surfing and more at Easy Adventure, with rates starting at PHP 3,000.00 per person for an overnight stay.

Hotel Motel Charlie Does Inn (Baler, Aurora)
In 2010, Charlies Does started out as a little surf shop where you can purchase equipment and sign up for surfing lessons. Soon, the owners started offering cozy and pocket-friendly accommodations as well to the growing number of tourists in Baler.

Sustainability is one of the guiding principles of Charlie Does’ collective enterprise. The rooms are made out of recycled materials like second hand container vans The insides are equipped with only the bare minimum—a cozy bed, en suite bathroom, and an electric fan. The rooms also stand right next to the “Big Shack” with a café where you can find one of Baler’s must-try coffees.

The room rates at Charlie Does It start at PHP 2,000.00 for an overnight stay for two.

Board Culture Liw-Liwa (San Felipe, Zambales)
From Manila, it only takes three hours to get to the quaint town of San Felipe, one of the prime surfing destinations in the province of Zambales. And near its shores is the unassuming and homey Board Culture Liw-Liwa (BCL).

For a no-frills accommodation in Zambales, BCL is definitely worth considering. This former private property features rustic facilities that exude a cool and chill vibe for visitors. The hostel has an elevated wooden area, with cushions on the floor, where guests can hang out. BCL is also just a few steps away from the beach, so you can ride the waves and experience the distinct surfing culture in the area.

Aside from surfing, BCL has a number of activities that you can also try to while the time away like skim boarding or indulging in a whole body massage. You can also rent tents and try camping within the area. They also serve boodle fights with mouthwatering dishes that you can share with your friends.

For inquiries and reservations, contact BCL through their Facebook page.
