1.    Go whitewater rafting.
If you have a thing for extreme sports, head to Cagayan de Oro and try whitewater rafting. There are several establishments like Kagay Whitewater Rafting and 1st Rafting Adventure that can help you, and there are around 3-4 courses available depending on your experience. For something really new, you can try night whitewater rafting. It is not for the faint of heart as the experience offers a whole different rush in the dark.

2.    Go shopping…at night!
If you love shopping and great deals, Cagayan de Oro’s Night Cafe and Night Market is perfect for you. This nightly event starts at 6PM and ends at 3AM. This is CDO’s version of Divisoria, and the place is packed with people and an array of things to buy and eat. There’s live music at the café, and you can practice your bargaining skills and get great things at low prices.

3.    Eat sinuglaw.

Sinuglaw is a combination of two types of dishes. The first is sinugba or grilled pork meat, and the second is kinilaw, which is shredded raw fish dipped in ginger, onion, salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Cagayan de Oro has some of the best sinuglaw. The best time to try it is during the Sinuglaw Festival, which happens during Cagayan de Oro’s biggest fiesta, the Kagay-an Festival.

4.    Explore nature.
Cagayan de Oro has plenty of natural wonders that deserve a visit. You can go for a stroll and explore Mapawa Nature Park, or try having a tour of Macahambus Hill Cave if you’re looking for something more unique. For the athletic travelers, you can also choose to trek to Mimbalut Falls.

5.    Fire some guns.
If you are a gun enthusiast, whether they’re real or replicas, Cagayan de Oro has several shooting ranges that allow you to practice target shooting and meet fellow enthusiasts. If you are looking for fun or want to blow off some steam, you can go play airsoft, which is essentially like paintball but with non-metallic pellets launched via replica firearms.
