In today's enlightened environment of global travel, taking a trip is about more than just seeing the world and having a good time─more and more travelers are looking for more meaningful journeys and finding ways to make a positive impact on the places they visit.

Voluntourism, or volunteer tourism, is a movement that is fast growing in popularity and appeal. Voluntourism runs the range of experiences from contributing non-skilled labor at building sites, sharing professional skills for medical missions, and donating time and resources for relief operations.

Locally, voluntourism is starting to gain a foothold as well. The Department of Tourism Region 10 and travel and tour operators in the area are now offering Fun Help Packages for Sendong. The Northern Mindanao Region had the heaviest hit provinces during last year's Typhoon Sendong, and widespread relief efforts are still ongoing.

The Fun Help Packages for Sendong for Cagayan de Oro have a three day, two night itinerary that includes a half-day city tour, an immersion activity, and optional tours for popular CDO attractions such as whitewater rafting, the Dahilayan Park, and the Del Monte Philippines grounds. The tours cover roundtrip hotel and airport transfers, accommodations, selected meals, and cash donations to the beneficiaries.

For a minimum of ten persons, package costs range from P3,350 for pension type accommodations; P3,800 for standard accommodations; and P4,400 for deluxe accommodations. Fees for optional tours are as follows: Basic whitewater rafting, P990/pax; Dahilayan and Del Monte tour, P1,999/pax; Dahilayan and whitewater rafting, P1,999/pax; and Iligan twin city immersion, P1,900/pax.
