Airports are gateways to other countries and all you need is a ticket and passport to be in a completely different place in just a matter of hours. Beyond this simple view of things, remember that you will spend a lot of time in an airport while waiting for your flight. In doing so, you certainly wouldn’t want to stay in one that is painfully dreadful (sadly, something that we Filipinos have grown accustomed to).
CNN.com reports that the Airports Council International has released their annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards which recognized the airports in 2015 that put in the effort in making their passengers as happy and as comfortable as possible. South Korea's Incheon Airport and Singapore's Changi Airport were tied for being the Best Airport in terms of size, serving at least 40 million passengers. Both also took the top prize for Best Airport by Region, specifically Asia-Pacific.
It comes as no surprise that this is Changi Airport’s 5th win in a row in that category. The airport has topnotch facilities like movie theaters that show the latest films, a roof deck swimming pool, entertainment centers, the world’s tallest slide in an airport, upscale restaurants and shops, and more. Aside from being a terminal for tourists, it has obviously emerged as a must-see destination.
The winners were chosen based on an in-depth survey of over 500,000 passengers from 300 airports across 80 counties last year. The survey zeroed in on passenger satisfaction in 34 key indicators including security, check-in, airport facilities, airport access, and more.
Other airports that topped the various categories include London Heathrow (UK), Sochi (Russia), Taiwan Taoyuan (Taiwan), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), and Jacksonville (Florida, USA).
