It is the center for trade, industry, and commerce in the whole region, making it an ideal place for visitors who want to immerse themselves in a modern culture distinct from the ones in Metro Manila. It is a modern and progressive place with a young population and boasts one of the most exciting activities you can do in the Philippines.

Cagayan de Oro River is the city's most famous natural wonder and where adventurers can try whitewater rafting and river trekking. This amazing river has numerous rapids where the raging water make rafting an extremely bumpy, challenging, but exciting experience. Surprisingly, visitors go back to it for more. The riverside also has lush forests that serve as habitat for the city's rich wildlife.

The historic Makahambus Cave is another popular natural treasure in Cagayan de Oro City. It was where the Battle of Macahambus took place in 1900, where Filipino soldiers used the cave to their advantage in defeating the American forces during the Philippine-American War. It was the first battle the Filipinos won against the Americans. The cave has mysterious limestone formations and dark chambers. At the cave's exit is a lovely scenic view of the Cagayan de Oro River.

Near the Makahambus Cave is the Makahambus Adventure Park which features even more activities for adrenaline junkies. It has a daunting 120-feet long hanging bridge that can be crossed by those who want to conquer their fear of heights. Ziplining and rappelling are also available.
