The province of Cavite played a huge role during the Spanish colonization as major historical events took place there. The 1872 Cavite mutiny, including the execution of Gomburza, was believed to have sparked nationalism among Filipinos, leading to the Philippine Revolution. The declaration of the county's independence was held in Kawit, Cavite; the hometown of Emilio Aguinaldo. Now, Cavite is one of the most organized and cleanest provinces in the country, providing travelers with a good mix of historic, cultural, and natural wonders.

Every year, thousands of tourists flock to Tagaytay to enjoy the cool climate and the scenic view from its highlands. Overlooking the Taal Lake in Batangas, the city has numerous parks with forests of refreshing pine trees like People's Park in the Sky and Picnic Grove. Upscale hotels, inns, restaurants, coffee shops, and stores line almost all of the major roads in Tagaytay.

Cavite is also known for being the birthplace of Emilio Aguinaldo, the First President of the Philippines. His home in the town of Kawit is where the independence of the Philippines from Spain was declared on June 12, 1898. The ancestral house is now known as the Aguinaldo Shrine. It has a museum where you can see artifacts from the revolutionary period and some of the former president's possessions. The balcony where Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence and waved the Philippine flag is still intact.

Corregidor Island is another historic destination in Cavite. It is known for being the last stronghold of the Filipino and American forces against the Japanese forces during World War II. Visitors can check out the old cannons and ruins on the island. There are also fun activities to do like hiking, sightseeing, and camping.

By Land
Cavite is only about one to two hours away from Metro Manila, depending on which part of Cavite you'll be visiting and the traffic situation. Whether you are commuting or driving, Cavite is very accessible.

For commuters, some of the terminals for Cavite-bound buses can be found in Coastal Mall and Baclaran in Parañaque, Cubao in Quezon City, Lawton in Manila, and Pasay. Meanwhile, those who are driving to Cavite can take the Cavite Expressway or Cavitex for a quicker route to some towns and cities in Cavite like Cavite City, Ternate, Noveleta, and Tagaytay.

By Sea
Corregidor Island in Cavite can only be reached via cruise from Metro Manila. As of now, only Sun Cruises offers transportations via ferry and tours in Corregidor Island. Their terminal is located along Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City, near the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The ferry ride takes around an hour.

How to Get Around
By Jeep
Jeep is the most common mode of public transport around Cavite. Various jeeps usually frequent main highways and roads. It is also the most affordable way of getting around.

By Tricycle
There are also tricycles around Cavite that can take you to your desired destination. While the fare is a bit costlier, tricycles are also usually your only option to get to the more secluded and remote areas in Cavite.

What to See
Landmarks
When it comes to historical landmarks, Cavite certainly won't disappoint. The province played an important part in the history of the country, especially during the Spanish colonization period. Cavite is historic place where you'll discover several landmarks that serve as reminders of the country’s past.

Cavite's most famous historic landmark would have to be the Aguinaldo Shrine and Museum in Kawit, Cavite. This was where the momentous Declaration of Philippine Independence was publicly read in June 12, 1898. Several artifacts and memorabilia are on display in the ancestral home of Emilio Aguinaldo, the First President of the Philippines. Just within walking distance from the Aguinaldo Shrine is the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, a Spanish-era Roman Catholic church. Another landmark found in Kawit is the Battle of Balikayan Monument, which was erected to commemorate the Battle of Balikayan, considered as the first significant battle in the history of the Philippines.

Corregidor Island is also one of Cavite's most prized landmarks. With its proximity to the Manila Bay, it served as one of the main defense bases of Manila for potential enemy attacks and was instrumental against the invading Japanese forces in World War II.

Meanwhile, you'll also find Fort San Felipe in Cavite City where the Cavite Mutiny took place in 1872. While in this city, you should also visit the San Roque Church where the allegedly miraculous image of the Nuestra Señora dela Soledad De Porte Vega is housed. Another landmark you also should not miss is the Thirteen Martyrs Monument in Trece Martires City. It was built in honor of the 13 Filipinos  who helped in the movement against the Spaniards. They were all executed in Bagumbayan.

Natural Attractions
Cavite is home to various natural wonders that will definitely appeal to all nature lovers and explorers.
Its waterfalls are some of the most popular attractions in the province. To name a few, there is the Balite Falls in Amadeo, the Palsahingin Falls in Indang, and the Malibiclibic Falls in the town of Aguinaldo. You'll also find a natural spring water pool in Carmona, which is known as Ulong Tubig. For those who prefer to swim in salty waters, Katungkulan Beach Resort in Ternate is just one of the beaches you can visit in Cavite. It is also known to some as Boracay de Cavite.

For those who crave an adrenaline rush, a hike to Mt. Pico De Loro's summit is one of the favorite activities in Cavite. Also located in Ternate, the mountain is the highest peak in all of Cavite and is recommended for novice hikers. There are also caves like Cabag in Maragondon and Matala and Piitan Caves in Indang for those who want to include spelunking in their itinerary.

Man-Made Attractions
There are lots to see and do in Cavite, especially in Tagaytay City. Its cold climate is best enjoyed with a family picnic at the Picnic Grove, one of the city’s most popular parks. You can also swing by People's Park in the Sky for an amazing view of the highlands and the Taal Volcano. And if you are traveling with kids, bring them to Sky Ranch where they can enjoy the fun and thrilliing rides such as its famed Ferris wheel.

If you are fond of museums, Museo de La Salle at the De La Salle University- Dasmariñas houses several artifacts and memorabilia.

Events and Festivals
The Philippines celebrates Independence Day every June 12, but its grandest celebration takes place in Cavite. The Kalayaan Festival is held for two weeks (May 28 to June 12) and features colorful events like street dances, parades, different kinds of competitions, and a trade and food fair.

Apart from the province-wide Kalayaan Festival, each of the towns and cities also boast their own feasts. Cavite City celebrates the Regada Festival or Water Festival every June in honor of St. John the Baptist, while a gastronomic experience awaits all attendees of Bacoor's Tahong Festival every September.

You'll also find some street vendors and stalls that offer pocket-friendly food products and even souvenirs.

Local Weather
Cavite and the rest of the country general have two seasons: the dry season during December until May, and the wet season from June to September. The weather is generally good all year round, but it's best to be prepared in case of sudden weather changes. Bring an umbrella at all times in case of rains or to protect yourself from the scorching rays of the sun. If you’re heading to Tagaytay, bring a jacket since it can be very cold especially at night.

Health
There are a good number of private and government hospitals all over Cavite in case of emergencies during your trip. There are also drug stores around where you can purchase medicines in case of common sicknesses like colds, fever, and stomach aches.

Tipping Practice
Unlike other countries, the Philippines does not have a specific practice for leaving tips in restaurants. Some diners leave loose change, while others leave small bills like a 20-peso bill or a 50-peso bill. Some restaurants also already include a service charge in their bill so there's no need to tip your servers in that case.

Transportation
Jeepneys remain the most popular mode of transportation in Cavite and in most destinations around the country. They are efficient if you want to reach town centers and tourist spots that are just along the main roads. Meanwhile, tricycles are your best bet if you want to travel to a hard-to-reach destination.

Safety and Security
Practice constant vigilance in any of your travels. While Cavite may be a generally safe destination, it's still best to survey your surroundings and store your valuables in a safe place.
