For my 29th birthday, I decided to celebrate away from the parties and the crowds and stay in this resort at Cagbalate Island. The staffs here are friendly and accommodating. I think the room is slightly expensive but it's not really a traditional HUT and is made up of concrete which makes you feel secured. The room is good for 4, consisting of beds and one electric fan. It also comes with a padlock so you can leave your things safely inside the room. Public restrooms are clean but there are lots of mosquitoes in the area which I think is normal for the island so you just have to bring a mosquito repellent. This resort is located in front of Bonsai Island and during low tide (between 11am-5pm), you can walk from the resort to the island without difficulty. There is also a sandbar in front of the resort where you can take great selfies. However, you can only fully enjoy swimming if you take a snorkelling tour because water in this island is always low. Maybe you can walk far from the island but we haven't tried that. There are lots of trees here so if you want to pitch your own tent, this is a great location. It's shaded and there are grills everywhere which you can use for free. There is also a kitchen with complete utensils but you have to pay 50 pesos for the stove for 30 minutes plus rent for utensils. I suggest that you bring your own food or utilize the grills. Just an FYI - there will be corkage for alcoholic beverages starting March. The best way to arrive at this resort is through habal habal. It's cheaper, faster and drivers are kind. It will only cost you 50 pesos compared to hiring a boat (400 pesos good for 4 - and if its low tide, you still need to walk far to get to the resort). You can also hike for 20 minutes but I won't suggest that due to the heat and there are parts of the trail where it's muddy. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and we will come back but not during peak season. The view is relaxing and you can enjoy having a drink while feeling the breeze or lying on a hammock while bird watching. NOTE: Avoid walking under coconut trees, one might fall on you and that's quite dangerous. Also, don't leave your trash lying around and please keep it away from the dogs. They tend to rummage through trash bins or plastic bags looking for food spreading the trash all over the place.

The stay was great, rooms are well ventilated. No need for an aircon as you can feel the coldness of the air from the sea. It could have been better if we were advised of the time the tide cease, and if the hotel can pick up guest at the port for free. We were not advised that the pick up (with carabao sled) costs 300.

Villa Cleofas is located in Cagbalete Island which is close to the Metro. What we love most about Villa Cleofas is that they have beachfront rooms and cottages. Since we were a total of 18 pax, we opted for a private boat transfer and it went smoothly. The boatmen and the porters were very kind and patient. The villa did not charge corkage fees for the food and drinks we have brought. They have a kitchen complete with utensils that can be rented out for Php50 per 30 minutes including the stove. It wasn't bad at all. They have videoke for rent as well. They serve foods and drinks (but with limited options). They have a bonfire place, a badminton net, hammocks, and of course good backgrounds for picture-taking. The cottage that the group rented out was spacious and have huge windows that allow cold night air inside. I rented out an AC room for myself though. It was ok. Note really that clean especially the bathroom. But the room has a double bed with clean sheets, a fan, an AC, a mirror con cabinet, a monoblock table and chair. Electricity runs from 6PM-6AM.

Staff are nice especially Kuya Jerome. He offered us a private boat ride for a small amount so that we could maximize our stay.
